West Hill Softball Season Updates (Jan 19)

Welcome to the 2022 WHS Season!

While we progress towards the starting line of the season, we will be providing you updates, reminders, and tips to help prepare for the coming season.  Here are this week’s updates with the Age Categories that apply in brackets).

1) New Name:  CALGARY MINOR FASTPITCH   (All Ages)

In the past, we have typically referred to our governing body as Calgary Minor Softball Association, or CMSA.  Starting in 2022, the organization will now operate as Calgary Minor Fastpitch.   So you may see us refer to them as “CMF” this coming season.  They will be going through a rebranding in the coming weeks to reflect the new name.   Why “Fastpitch” instead of “Softball”?  Well, there is a raging debate over which term to use in the softball world these days and it comes down to differentiating the different brands of softball; a discussion for a later article!  Calgary Minor Fastpitch

2) Respect in Sport (RIS) Requirement Change   (All ages)

Good news.  If you have an expired RIS certificate (after 5 years), you are NOT required to retake this course in 2022.  CMF has decided to retain the course requirement as ONE parent, and ONCE over time.  If you are part of a co-parenting situation where both will be involved, we ask that BOTH parents please complete the course for everyone’s safety.   New to Softball and need info on how to complete RIS? 3) New Game Schedule Season Start Date   (U9+)

Just a subtle change here:  The Calgary Minor Fastpitch season will now commence on Saturday, April 30 (instead of Wed/Thu Apr 27-28).  This means you will be starting off with a bang with 4 games on opening weekend!  WHS recognizes the need for practice time prior, so weather permitting, we are hoping to schedule both some practices and some internal exhibition games between April 18 to 28.   CMF Dates

4) Update on Spring Training Rustbusters (U9+)

We are just in a waiting pattern to get confirmation from our facilities, which has put the first weekend (Jan 28-30) in doubt.  We know everyone is excited to get started, and as soon as we get a confirmation, we will start registrations for these clinics.  Pending gym times, we hope to host clinics targeted at both beginner and experienced players.  Note also that our evaluation schedules are also pending facility availability, we will post information as soon as possible.   We apologize for the delays caused by the uncertainty of gym space.

5) New WHS Logo & Jerseys Coming  (All)

We have finished work on our new logo and will be revealing it in the coming days.  We are pretty excited about the new look and currently working on our new jersey design.  Some teams will use the new jerseys in 2022, but others will remain on the old design for another season.  A new apparel web store will be coming soon, so you can order the new design.  If you have a jersey/apparel supplier you’d like us to consider, please reach out to us ASAP (we are currently reviewing several options available to us).
